Answering the Tough Question

In Ephesians 4:1 the Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, straightforwardly and with emphasis, says, “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” Let’s back up and read that again. “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”

The first question for you to consider is, “Are you living your life worthy of your calling?” In the context of unity and maturity in the body of Christ, this question directly addresses your Christ-like lifestyle as a believer. Too often believers tend to separate how they act, think, and speak when they are together from how they act, think, and speak in other environments. This verse is a New Testament reflection of the Old Testament priesthood. As a Believer, you are a royal priesthood in Christ. Your lifestyle must be one that is holy and separated unto God in every area and in every situation or environment.

Moreover, according to Scripture, as a leader to believers, you hold an even greater position of accountability.

Luke tells us that much is required from a person to whom has been given much. You have been given the greatest privilege of caring for and nurturing God’s children.

In view of this high calling you carry, how would you then answer this question? “Are you living a life worthy of the calling you have received?”

I believe that each of us must frequent this question with an open and honest heart. Let us challenge ourselves to ‘keep it before our eyes’ in motivation to be ever-increasing in our Christ-likeness as we carry out the calling God has so graciously entrusted to us.
