Are You An “Under Weight” Pastor?

Here’s today’s question.  Are you an “Under Weight” Pastor?  The question actually represents two questions in one.

First, are you “Under Weight,” meaning are you carrying a load that just seems almost too much to bear?

Second, are you “Under Weight” meaning are you lacking in an area of growth (leadership, spiritually, etc…) causing you to be anemic in that area?

We all experience both of these from time to time.  Obviously, trials and tests will continue to surface, but the goal is for us to be filled with faith and effectively throw off those weights instead of struggling under them.

It is regarding the second question above that I desire to exhort you in today.  God is moving in wonderful ways across the globe.  We are consistently hearing testimonies from leaders who share the incredible ways God is using them and their ministries.  At the same time, there are so many leaders who are living in a spiritual drought and do not even realize it.  They are so busy doing and doing and doing that, as Martha in Lk. 10, they are too busy to soak up any refreshing ministry of the Holy Spirit.

One of my favorite scriptures is Isaiah 58:11.  “The LORD will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”

If you are feeling “Under Weight” and the pressures of life and ministry are causing your to recognize spiritual anemia (weakness), or if you are “Under Weight” and the burdens of the ministry seem to be crushing you, there is an immediate remedy!  Remember, “They that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength.”

God knew that you would have those days!  He looked ahead and foreknew the difficult moments.  He made a way for you to make it through!  He sent you a Comforter, a Counselor, and ever present Help in the time of trial!  He gave you His Word! He made Himself approachable for you!

Do yourself a huge favor today.  Spend some time with Father God.  Allow the Spirit of God to refresh you.  Personalize Isaiah 58:11 and say it out loud to yourself over and over.  Say, “The LORD will guide me always; He will satisfy my needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen my frame. I will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”

Make it a matter of habit to daily be refreshed by God’s Word and the Holy Spirit.  Soon you will discover that those storms which once tossed you around will actually refresh and remind you of the strength you have received from God’s Spirit and the Truths in His Word!
