Treats, Treats, and MORE Treats

Today’s Word of Encouragement
Earlier this week, God reminded me of Isaiah 7:9 which says, “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”
As I was meditating on this word, God clearly said, “Standing firm does not mean standing still.” THERE IS A DIFFERENCE between ‘standing firm’ and ‘standing still.’
What’s the difference? Standing firm means that you are rooted, grounded, and firmly established in your faith. Nothing can shake you, deter you, or move you away from the truth of God which governs and fulfills your life.
As opposed to ‘standing still,’ ‘standing firm’ also means that you are consistently active in doing what God has called you to do. (I’ll insert here that doing is not busyness. Because your first thought may be, I’m doing so much right now that I must be standing firm.)
The best word picture is seen in the tree described in Ps. 1:3 and Jer. 17:8. This tree is established, but it is also ‘bearing fruit.’ It consistently progresses in its purpose by bearing the fruit God created it to bear. Similarly, we stand firm, but do not stand still, when we consistently progress by bearing the fruit God created us to bear. We have been “created in Christ Jesus to do good works,” Eph. 2:10, works that Jesus said would be even greater works than what He did in His earthly ministry! John 14:12
God has called you to ‘stand firm’ in your faith, or you do not stand at all. Pause and consider how you are bearing fruit. Are you consistently active in doing the works God created you to do? Are you seeking God for the opportunities of doing even greater works than Jesus each day as the Holy Spirit’s power moves through you?
