The Stranger Danger Approach to the Gospel – Ministry Memo from Pastor Gary

As we begin today’s ministry memo, I want you to share with you a quote which I recently read in a devotional challenge from Charles Spurgeon where which he stated:

“When the town is on fire, our house cannot be too far from the flames. When the plague is abroad, a man cannot be too far from its haunts. The further from a viper the better, and the further from worldly conformity the better.”

I ask you to carefully consider how children in today’s culture are being influenced and impacted by the world around them. The fallen nature in the world is constantly pressing against them.   Yet, there are times when we allow ourselves to be deceived into believing that this is a good thing which makes them stronger, rather than realizing that allowing them to participate in certain  situations is actually condoning worldly behavior.

After our community struggled through a child abduction and murder, its response was to increase child safety and raise the “stranger danger” awareness in our children’s minds. The goal was to help our children recognize the potential dangers they face and equip them to successfully avoid them.

Let me ask you, how much more should we be raising our children’s awareness to the potential danger to their souls?

Heaven and hell are reality. Our God-given call is to lead our children ‘in the way’ that brings them closer to God, not closer to a love of ungod-like worldliness.
