What Are You Doing For The Lord Today? – Ministry Memo from Pastor Gary

What are you doing for the Lord today? This simple question can be a great challenge and encouragement for us as we strive to be the salt of the earth and the light of Christ to the world around us. It can also be the beginning of what holds us back from being the salt and light. “How so?” you may ask. Let’s consider this together for a moment.

I like the quote from Oswald Chambers that says, “It is the work that God does through us that counts, not what we do for Him. All that Our Lord considers in a man’s life is the relationship of worth to His Father.” This quote hits the proverbial nail on the head. You and I will experience rest, success, peace, direction, and blessing as we focus ourselves more on relationship with God than works for God. If you are feeling hurried or harried, then step back for a moment and earnestly consider this thought.

It reminds me of a routine I used to do with my ventriloquist figure. He would tell me of how he had a nightmare. He was stuck at a door with a sign on it and couldn’t get out. All night long he pushed and pushed and pushed but could not get the door open. After a few moments, I’d ask him, “What did the sign say?” He would answer, “Pull.”

Are you feeling pressed on all sides? Maybe you are pushing and pushing at a door when God is telling you to pull. Let’s contemplate this thought for a few moments and then change the question above to, “What am I going to allow God to work through me today?”
